HIGHLAND PARK, IL (June 5, 2019) – LogicGate, a leading Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) process automation platform, will continue its relationship with Beyond Sports Foundation, an organization that services underprivileged youth in Chicago through athletic training, academic tutoring, and professional skills development. As part of the relationship, LogicGate holds career-focused workshops with Beyond Sports student-athletes to educate them on opportunities they can pursue beyond sports after their playing careers are over.
“It was great to see such a motivated group of high school athletes take time out of their weekend to learn about digital literacy and jobs in technology,” said Szuyin Leow, manager of customer success for LogicGate. “The students seemed to really enjoy the activity we did around conceptualizing a new mobile app, and it helped them understand how there are many skills beyond just coding that are critical in STEM careers. Ultimately, we wanted to help them understand that there are multiple different types of technology-related jobs in the sports industry and beyond, and that many of the experiences they've gained through sports can be applied in those careers.”
Fewer than 2 percent of NCAA student-athletes go on to be professional athletes. As a young athlete, it is vital to prepare for a career that is not associated with playing professionally, and understand the best way to employ one’s strengths off the playing court or field.
“Our student-athletes are incredibly talented in each of their respective sports,” says Alec Brown, executive director of Beyond Sports. “It’s our job to help them learn more about their identity outside of athletics, and equip them with the tools and experiences they need for lifelong success. LogicGate has played a vital role in achieving that.”
In addition to career workshops, LogicGate provides student-athletes the opportunity to conduct mock interviews and empower themselves by enhancing their digital literacy. The organization also gives back to local nonprofits in the city of Chicago by providing skills, professional development, and career coaching.
